I’m a Problem Solver

I believe empathy is most difficult to give. Feeling empathy requires suspension of our ego so we could have a clear understanding for another point of view. My belief in empathy underpins my commitment to the work I do. After years of conducting qualitative and quantitative research, I’m still fascinated by the feelings, preferences and opinions of others.

From designing methodologies to identifying patterns, research is like a treasure hunt. I’m rewarded with each new clue I unearth. By listening to consumers through the tools of my trade, I empathize with their situation and develop interactive strategies to help organizations better serve them.

▷ My professional experience has been shaped through important healthcare, economic, social and industry assignments, which included working in a warzone for a year. I’ve designed, analyzed and reported on 25+ major consumer and market research projects that influenced customer-focused decisions for businesses, nonprofits and government agencies.

▷ My continuing academic achievements reflect my passion for new technologies. After earning master’s degrees in Professional & Technical Communication and International Studies, I delved into extensive specialized training in user experience (UX) and marketing. Most recently I earned the SEO Specialization Certificate from UC Davis.

I’m seeking an opportunity to make a positive difference as member of an organizational team. Please contact me if my expertise is a good match for your mission.

Quantitative Methods

Using programming language such R, SQL and Excel VBA is like putting together puzzle pieces. Quantitative analysis imparts the big picture necessary for discerning common themes and markets. I see it as complimenting qualitative methods.

I have used R programming to perform statistical analysis to determine behaviors and beliefs for a given population. Such an analysis can help a business figure out where to allocate their dollars for greater profit. R programming is great for importing, cleaning and preparing data.

I have used SQL for joining databases as well as preparing and cleaning data. I found it most useful to present an interactive dashboard in Google Data Studio or Tableau. This is an effective way for stakeholders to look at different dimensions of the data that allows them to make better decisions.

Tableau is also great for noting patterns on a global scale through maps. You could look at the different independent variables through charts and graphs.

I found Excel to be useful discerning summaries, trends, and patterns. It is powerful enough to automate an analysis on a high-level scale. May businesses prefer to manage their data in Excel given how accessible the app is.

Qualitative Methods

I like to conduct qualitative research to bring humanity to the numbers. It’s so important to have an empathic approach to product marketing and UX.  It better helps to discern beliefs, attitudes, behavior, and interactions. I see it as answering ‘why’ to the numbers. Qualitative research helps me communicate a story about the numbers.

A qualitative interview goes beyond the questionnaire. As an interviewer, I can probe for more clarity. This enables the richness of data.

I conducted ethnographic research in different cultures. I found it is much more useful to observe users in their natural environment as opposed to a lab. It helps gain insights into how users interact with things in their natural environment.

Focus groups is useful for gathering information about customer opinions regarding products and/or services. People talking with each other in groups helps to spark thoughts in the participants and generate a wealth of ideas.
